The New Urban World Journal
Who are we?
The New Urban World Journal has been in circulation since 2012. Starting as an expression of the International Society of Urban Mission (ISUM), a Christ focused network of organisations focused on the urban poor. The journal was handed to Urban Shalom Publishing in 2017. Now, in 2024, the journal is being restarted as a partnership between Centre for Building Better Community (CBBC) and Bakke Graduate University (BGU). We see the journal and the topics covered as a reflection of God’s desire for shalom, modelled through the life, work, and pattern of Christ.
Why do we exist?
The NUWJ exists to engage in faith informed academic reflection on our urban world. With a particular focus on promoting the voices of urban activists, leaders, academics, and practitioners living and working in the majority world (global south).
NUWJ is part of creating a world characterised by shalom, a place of harmony, cooperation, where uniqueness and beauty is valued.
How will we do this?
NUWJ promotes and presents well thought out, faith-based responses to some of the world’s most pressing urban issues. Through peer reviewed articles, interviews and stories, the journal will highlight the work of faith informed scholars, practitioners and leaders from the majority world.
